How do you recognize someone like former President George H. W. Bush as he celebrates his 90th birthday this week?
Anyone who knew me back in grade school could tell you how big of an admirer I was of President Bush. One of the things he is best remembered for is his points of light pledge from his inaugural address. President Bush called upon Americans to dedicate themselves to each other through service–the thousand points of light across our nation.
For almost a quarter century, Points of Light has been working to implement and advance President Bush’s vision. Points of Light connects millions of volunteers with tens of thousands of volunteer opportunities in the United States and around the world.
We celebrate most birthdays by lighting candles on a cake. On June 12th, to celebrate President George H. W. Bush’s 90th birthday, Points of Light wanted to honor President Bush and his legacy by inviting Americans to pledge their service.
Engage is deeply honored to have been chosen to partner with Points of Light to help carry on President Bush’s legacy.
Each one of us has the power to influence the lives of many others for the better. Each one of us has the power to be one more point of light, to be one person who makes a difference.
Our task: empower Americans who want to serve and design a digital home for their pledges.
We built an innovative online platform that shows the points of light that President Bush described. Americans can go to the site and pledge to serve. Their pledges are then added to an interactive map that shows the points of light across our great country.
Join in, pledge your service, and share it with your friends. Along with a colorful pair of socks, there’s no better way to celebrate President Bush on his 90th birthday.
