The Atlantic recently reported that The Washington Post produces 1,200 pieces of content per day with the editorial staff producing 500 stories a day — one every two minutes — just by themselves. Other major outlets such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and BuzzFeed are producing 200-300 stories a day or about one story every seven minutes.

This is especially important to understand for media communications professionals seeking to create content in an increasingly fast-paced media environment (which will only accelerate as the 2016 Presidential cycle further unfolds) and the ever-growing content glut that shows no sign of slowing down.

While news outlets continue to generate more and more content, it is more crucial than ever to think about the implications for your digital marketing, content, and public relations strategy. From live video to the creation of sharable posts, developing a constant stream of content is incredibly important for the success of a brand. Furthermore, social and search engine optimization (SEO) is critical to the success of any campaign along with relevant analytics and data which should be leveraged to better inform future content decisions to improve user experience and interaction.
